News: GPIB now optional on QL Series Power Supplies
GPIB is no longer standard on QL series programmable versions but is still available as a factory fit option
The GPIB IEEE488 instrument control interface was introduced in the 1960s and is still retained in some legacy test systems. The use of GPIB has reduced significantly over the past 10 years, LAN/LXI being the preferred interface in new automated test systems.
Some Aim-TTi product series are available with or without programmable interfaces in which case the programmable ones are indicated by a P suffix on the model name. Others, mainly function generators, have automation interfaces as standard on all models and don't have the P suffix. These programmable products (with a few exceptions) have LAN/LXI, USB and RS232 interfaces as standard. The increasing cost of the GPIB chipset makes it no longer practical to retain this legacy interface on all products so it is no longer standard fit on Aim-TTi programmable models. The majority of programmable products can have GPIB added by using the retrofittable GPIB-1A interface option module, but the QL, PL and PLH series DC power supply programmable variants have historically had GPIB built in as standard and are not compatible with the GPIB-1A module. Going forward, the QL series will not have GPIB fitted as standard. In order to continue to support our customers with legacy GPIB test system requirements, they are still available with GPIB as a factory option designated by a (G) suffix on the model name. This was already the case for the PL and PLH series.
